Home Town Heroes

Lynda Credits all of her successes as a result of teamwork and many years of committee involvement. Lynda along with her co-workers at Coldwell Banker Bartels has organized Spaghetti Feeds benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of America in El Sobrante and Richmond (Salesian). Lynda also helps in organizing Walk-A-Thon Fundraisers benefiting Habitat for Humanity.
In an interview Lynda said “it seems as though half of the nation watches “Dancing with the Stars”, but did you know that in West County we have had our very own “Dancing with the Stars” event featuring second through sixth grade students who attend the West Contra Costa Salesian Boys & Girls Club located in Richmond. For three (3) years Lynda Bartels, West Contra Costa Salesian Boys & Girls Club Board Member helped to showcase the ballroom dancing skills of these young people. She noted that the club did not have an activity involving music and movement for the after school participants, so remember the delight that she had as a child dancing in a ball room at a young age, she offered to teach a class in the 2007 spring after school program. It was such a hit that ballroom dancing became a part of the yearly spring offering for the girls and boys. Lynda is currently donating her time at St. Cornelius School in Richmond teaching dancing.
When one young man was asked why he liked the class, he said that he gets to be with girls, and dancing helps him not be nervous, and dancing would be useful when he grew up and had to go to a wedding! A young girl said she like the program because she was learning a lot of new dances that she never knew, and working with her friends was very fun. She concluded by saying that Lynda is a very very good teacher and learning from her has just been so exciting. Lynda believes that the children need to express their own talents while doing the traditional ballroom dances. The most exiting part of the program for Lynda is seeing each child develop confidence and poise as they master a dance that is totally new to them.
